Much of what we achieve in business (and in life) is through people.
DISC is a simple but very powerful personality profiling tool that can help you to build stronger relationships with your team and customers (and even with your family and friends).
The DISC system uses a combination of 4 main personality traits to describe people and helps you understand how to deal with different types of people. The 4 personality traits are:
D ominant – These are people how are Outgoing and Task focused. They don’t care too much what other people think of them and they are happy to push to get things done. They are the drivers and doers.
I nfluential – These are Outgoing, People people. They are dynamic and love building relationships and friendships.
S teady – These people really value relationships and people but are more Reserved that a High “I” person. They love working in teams and tend to be the glue that holds things together.
C ompliant – These people are Reserved, Task-focused types. They love routine, structure and detail and don’t cope well with change. Many engineers, accounts staff and technical roles are High “C”s.
People are a combination of these 4 styles.
We use DISC for 3 main reasons:
- Team building, so that you know how to deal with others in your team and they know how to deal with each other.
- Recruitment, so you can match the right personality style to the right role.
- Sales, so you can adjust your approach to build rapport with different types of people. For example a High “D” wants things in bullet points, not too much detail and makes decisions quickly. Whereas a High “C” wants tons of detail before making a decision.
